This rosé comes from vineyards in the eastern foothills of the Pyrenees. This lovely wine has a very pale pink-peach hue and a delicate nose of white peach and underripe strawberries, with accents of crushed yellow roses. The palate is light-bodied and fresh, with notes of English flower garden and freshly-mown grass. A beautiful wine to serve with gently cooked chicken breasts with cranberry-infused stuffing. How refreshing to find a really fine rosé from somewhere other than France, and without relying on the staple grape of peachy-tasting pink wines: Grenache. This excellent example from Sicily, made by one of the island’s most famous names, Planeta, uses the native grape of Nero d’Avola with Syrah to yield a rosé with a lovely mix of white-fleshed cherry, a touch of peach, then blood orange and a gently tangy note of bitter lemon.
